Nano One Commences Commercial Facility Design Study

Vancouver, BC: Nano One Materials Corp. (“Nano One” or the “Company”) announces the commencement of work by NORAM Engineering and Constructors Ltd. (“NORAM”) and its subsidiary BC Research Inc. (“BCRI”) (reported March 9, 2015) to provide a conceptual design and cost estimate for a commercial facility that produces lithium ion battery cathode materials.

Financial support for study is being provided by Canada’s National Research Council Industrial Research Assistance Program (“NRC-IRAP”) as part of a larger project agreement (reported March 9, 2015) entered into with NRC-IRAP whereby NRC-IRAP will fund a non-repayable contribution for the optimization and design of a demonstration pilot facility. Under the terms of the NRC-IRAP agreement, NRC-IRAP has agreed to reimburse the Company a portion of the salaries paid to Company employees and a portion of the fees paid to consultants, such as BCRI.

NORAM and BCRI are globally recognized in process engineering and have designed, scaled and built industrial chemical plants around the world. They are providing laboratory, incubation and piloting facilities to Nano One along with technology development, scale-up and commercialization know-how, engineering design and fabrication support.

Clive Brereton, Ph.D., leads all process development work at BCRI as Director and stated that “BCRI have been very impressed by the strong technical skills brought to the project by Nano One’s staff and their capacity to focus research and development activities towards the path of commercialization.”

The conceptual design study will provide Nano One with preliminary process flow diagrams (PFD), three-dimensional layouts and cost estimations for the equipment, installation and operation of a full commercial system operating at approximately 10,000 kg/day.

The outcome of this study will also guide current bench scale technology development efforts and the design and construction of an intermediate pilot scale facility in 2016. This pilot line will demonstrate production of materials at approximately 10 kg/day and provide sufficient quantities of material for potential customers to evaluate and demonstrate performance in pilot battery production.  Nano One believes that these outcomes will provide key players in the battery materials space with confidence in Nano One’s plans to deliver scalable and cost effective technology.

In support of commercialization and performance testing efforts, Nano One continues to optimize its core processing technology as it relates to making nano-structured composite lithium ion battery cathode materials. In 2014, Canada’s National Research Council and several key players in the battery space tested and evaluated sample materials from Nano One. Results were positive and there remains strong interest in testing larger batches of the Company’s recent generation of materials. In house battery testing of these materials is underway in anticipation of providing optimized material to interested third parties.
