In the face of climate change, the push to innovate and advance electrification technologies has never been more urgent. Despite the industry’s best efforts, coal-fired power generation is steeply declining as natural gas and renewable energy offer cleaner ways to produce electricity. Already teetering on the edge, coal companies have been pushed even closer to the brink by the coronavirus pandemic. The coal era could end soon, driven by further improvements in renewable technologies like grid storage batteries which make solar and wind power more reliable energy providers.
