Powering Defence and National Security for Canada and Its Allies

Nano One is putting Canadian-made battery materials at the centre of defence and national security.
CANADIAN PRODUCTION. ALLIED SECURITY.

Canadian Battery Materials for National Security

Nano One’s One-Pot™ technology enables domestic production of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cathode materials for batteries serving defence and commercial markets, including energy storage and electric vehicles.

With production capabilities in Candiac, Québec, and a strategy for expansion across allied countries, Nano One is positioned to help strengthen the battery supply chains that underpin national security.

One Production Line. Defence and Commercial Markets.

Dual-Use by Design

The same LFP chemistry powering energy storage and electric vehicles is increasingly specified for defence applications.

Nano One’s One-Pot™ process enables domestic production for both markets from the same production line, allowing commercial demand to sustain the industrial base that future defence needs may draw upon.

Energy Storage

LFP demand is driven by stationary energy storage, where it accounts for more than 90% of installations, with North American growth led by grid-scale storage and backup power for AI data centres.

Electric Vehicles

LFP demand is driven by electric vehicles in Europe, where battery-electric vehicle (BEV) registrations across 17 markets grew 33.7% in the first half of 2026.

Defence Applications

LFP demand is driven by a growing range of defence applications, where its thermal stability, long cycle life and lower cost relative to other lithium-ion chemistries support its use.

Designed to Scale Across Allied Nations

Nano One’s One-Pot™ process enables LFP cathode production for defence and commercial markets from the same production line.

At Candiac, Québec, product qualification, production volumes and raw material sourcing are aligned with the requirements of defence and energy-storage customers. Approximately 95% of equipment by procurement cost, including 100% of IP-sensitive equipment, has been sourced from Canada, the United States and the European Union.

Through Nano One’s Design-One-Build-Many licensing strategy, this production model can be replicated across future licensed and partnered facilities using the same plant design and allied equipment supply chain.

From Funding to Production

Government funding and strategic industry partnerships are helping Nano One expand LFP cathode production in Canada. These efforts are advancing One-Pot™ commercialization and capacity expansion at Candiac, Québec, strengthening Canada’s role in battery material supply chains for domestic and allied markets.

The facility is targeting approximately 800 tonnes per year of commissioned capacity in the first half of 2027.
